Elvon is happier in The Terraces. 24 hours in, he was even much more responsive. He even spoke a full sentence. I didn’t see another one in the two subsequent days, though. He seems to be happier, and mouthed I love you, in response to an entirely different question, but I take it when I get it, and am grateful. His room is lovely and has great energy. The building is quiet, even though there is a lot going on, if only he could participate.
Yesterday, I spent three hours there, waiting for, and working with, Comcast. He didn’t pay much attention, and wasn’t really watching it when I left. I am hoping it’s company. I’ll have a lot more work to do to get it set up with Amazon Prime and NetFlix, so we can watch movies together in the evenings. All this technical stuff has become so hard. The Comcast rep couldn’t even set it up such that it would power on right into Comcast. He has it so you need both remotes and knowledge of the fact that Comcast is “Outside Antenna/TV” to get it going. That’s just wrong. There are probably 20 people who will be touching that set and I can’t get the word to all of them. I’ll make a little sign, if I can’t get it to work as it should. That’s for this afternoon. I wanted to report to you, first, and thank all of you for your encouragement, both here on the blog, in private emails, phone calls, and in person. It keeps me going, and, yes, times ARE tough. Love, Helen
What a loving, wonderful wife you are!

I am very glad that Elvon likes to be where he is now and you deserve a lot of credit and love that you do what and how you do it.
Must be tough sometimes, I have never been in the situation but have been with people who dealt with it, So, I have some idea. Also Mariann had her struggles, but Dale seems to have settled in also well it seems to me. I wish Elvon and Dale a ‘good time’ as much as possible and you, Helen and also Mariann a lot of strength and endurance.
With love, Ulla and John too

Happy to hear Elvon is settling in and there will some normal activity going on, whatever normal means. I’m glad you will be watching TV with him, and the best part is that he said “I love you”. That says a lot. All the best for the holidays.

Helen, it’s so good to know things are a bit better!!
I was going to suggest a universal remote, but they have a lot of buttons, too. I guess what’s needed is a simple on-off button, with all the other settings, like volume, pre-set so he can’t accidentally change them. I did a quick google search, but didn’t see anything. Maybe the Alzheimer’s Society would be able to help?
Sending good wishes and hopes that things will continue to improve,
Xo

At the very least you are closer and can spend more time together. I’m sorry you are having such Tech problems. This weekend the internet was not working all Saturday and Sunday. Finally the tv worked on Sunday. I thought Richard would lose all his hair (ha, ha). I was fine reading a book. Sometimes I am really glad I am not a techie. Merry Christmas!
